The original, full-size bronze statue, dating to ca 475 BC, is now in the National Archaeological Museum in Athens. There has been considerable debate about his identity ZEUS or POSEIDON. He was discovered in the sea, off Cape Artemision, between 1926 ad 1928 and is one of the handful of original, full-size bronze statues to survive from antiquity.
