This oil lamp is decorated with two bulls and has a serpent's head handle. To the ancient Greeks, the bull was a symbol of power, virility and strength. It was a particularly potent image in the culture of the Minoans, who represented it in their frescoes and sculpture. As a symbol of healing and protection, the serpent was associated with the cult of Asclepius, god of medicine. The Greeks feared it for its tremendous powers, but it was also revered as a defender and guardian.

All our bronze items, are cast in Greece, using the traditional 'lost wax' method. As nothing is mass-produced, there will inevitably be slight variations in patination and coloring. Each piece is, therefore, unique.
