Democritus(c. 460 –c. 370 BC) was an ancient Greek pre-Socratic philosopher primarily remembered today for his formulation of an atomic theory of the universe. His belief is that the universe is governed entirely by natural, mechanistic laws rather than Gods. His description of a universe containing an infinity of diverse inhabited worlds and his assertion is that nothing is actually something. Democritus had visited many countries and had shared his thoughts, viewpoints and ideas with scholars across the globe. Majority of his works have not survived and only fragments from his vast body of thoughts and work remain.
